MLB
Everything LineupMeter publishes about Major League Baseball starts here.
Status, late October 2026: the daily pages are not live yet. Our plan is to publish projected lineups and probable pitchers for spring training games from February 2027 and for the regular season from Opening Day. If the 2027 season is delayed, the daily pages will start with the first games actually played. We will not publish invented lineups to fill the gap.
Planned for 2027: daily projected lineups, probable pitchers, team pages, a time-stamped log of lineup changes and an injuries page. None of them is live yet.
What our guides found in 2025
Our own calculations from Retrosheet data for the 2025 regular season, one finding per guide:
- Batting orders: the average team used 135.9 different batting orders in 162 games, and repeated the exact order of its previous game only 4.8% of the time.
- Probable pitchers: clubs used 13.2 different starting pitchers on average (range 8 to 19), and 49.2% of starts came on five days of rest.
- Platoons: teams faced a left-handed starter in 26.3% of games and started about one and a half fewer left-handed hitters in those games.
- Start probability: our simple baseline scored a Brier score of 0.153, against 0.250 for a constant forecast.
- Release times: a lineup becomes official only at the card exchange, about five minutes before the scheduled start.
- Injured list: the four lists (7, 10, 15 and 60 days) and what each means for the lineup.
